A super easy and sweet dress

When I found this adorable dress I knew that my sweet little girl just had to have one! Its called a "pillowcase" dress. It takes just about the same amount of material that a pillowcase would take. Its super easy and can easily be worn in the summer-sleeveless and in the winter with a long undershirt. I found the pattern at Prudent Baby and I just made a few adjustments. I had all the materials-the ribbon was the only part I purchased. It took me two tries to get the shape of the dress right, but once that was done it was easy goin! Since it was so easy, I plan on making her a few more! Up next, a valentines day/spring wreath and a cute ruffle tu-tu!

Laundry oh how I loathe thee...

It seems that lately I can't keep up with the LAUNDRY! Every time I turn around the pile has grown! Its almost as if it has a life of its own. Glaring at me every time I pass it. Washing and drying is never the problem, its the folding. I can't seem to find enough time to fold it, so we live out of the laundry basket. It also doesn't help that I have a small child who thinks its funny to knock over the piles I fold. So only when she naps, do I fold and its never long enough to finish it all. My husband assures me that I am not the only one who has this problem. He says that lots of people live out the laundry basket! I find that hard to believe...
I can't wait till summer when I can line dry! Surely then I wont forget them. Right?
On a slightly different note, my homemade laundry soap is fantastic! It's been one month and we haven't had any weird unidentifiable skin issues! Our clothes smell great and my wallet is happy!
So if there is anyone out there who has any fantastic ideas to keep up with this constant day to day chore PLEASE SHARE!

White Bean Chili

I just wanted to share this fantastic recipe for a white bean chili. My crew loves it! There's silence at my house when we eat it!

1 tablespoon olive oil
4 skinless boneless chicken breasts-cut into cubes
1/2 onion chopped or you can use a sprinkle of minced onions( you can find them with the spices, I actually prefer these to an actual onion)
2 cups chicken broth
1 4oz can of diced green chilies
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/8 or a quick sprinkle of cayenne pepper
2 15oz cans of cannelliini beans(drained) or 2 cans of great northwestern beans
shredded cheese for topping

Heat the olive oil in a pan over med heat. Add cubed chicken until inside is no longer pink. In a separate pot stir in chicken broth, green chilies, garlic powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a low boil and add beans. Simmer for 15 mins. Then add chicken. Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips.

Potty time!

My daughter will turn 2 in May and I've already began the building blocks of potty training. We talk about the concept, learn the words etc. I dislike the pull-ups you can buy at the store. They feel and look just like a diaper except with velcro. Big deal. Not to mention, they are expensive. I also know that big girl panties are too thin. Then pee just runs down her legs. So, I decided to make my own training pants. They have a water proof liner on the inside, cotton batting for absorbency and super cute. I had a difficult time finding the right pattern so this is a combination from a diaper cover pattern and a free pattern I found on the internet. I am not a super seamstress. Its a learning process every time I create something, on that note I couldn't of done it without the help of a true super seamstress-my mother in law. She is so patient with me
( thank goodness)I realize that its not the best picture. I will try and catch a picture of her wearing them ( if she will hold still long enough). I also realize that its missing a snap. The snaps were probably the most difficult part of the whole thing. If there is interest then MAYBE I can do a tutorial....maybe.

I think I can, I think I can...

So, today started out great and slowly went downhill. I'm doing my best to keep my resolution. Im getting dressed everyday, makeup hair etc. I even tried some pin curls today. I wish I could say that I did it right and show you the fantastic end result...lets just say there were no curls( I think my hair is too long) and I changed mid-day into my comfy sweatshirt. Oi. Im ready to try again tomorrow. Here is a good starter pic( taken early in the day-before the sweatshirt)

A short rant

Can I just say... I have severe dislike for dieting! With the new year, I feel like I'm being bombarded with commercials and ads urging people to keep their resolutions. I like food. I like food that tastes good! Guess who is a crabby mess when they diet? ME! Then it occurred to me- Who or what defines beautiful? Thin or Curvy? Tall or short? I'm just saying that if "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" then why do we all struggle to achieve perfection?
My point is-be you! Whatever form or shape of you is happiest, then stay that way!
I have some images of beautiful women at different time periods. I loved finding these pictures! Enjoy!
